Lotus Traveler: It’s just too easy

I'll be honest, I was skeptical. I didn't really have faith it would all work out. Not sure why, but I didn't. I wanted this to work because my iPhone users are my biggest Outlook proponents and well, I didn't want to give them another reason to push Outlook. As Mitch Cohen told me on Twitter, "real men just click setup and go :)" so I thought what the heck. So I just went for it.Last night, I took down my server, upgraded to 8.5.1 and then installed Traveler. The upgrade/install took maybe 15 minutes with a restart in between. After the Traveler install, I restarted and the server was up and running. I could hit the traveler home page and all seemed good. Now I just had to get a hold of my iPhone user in the morning and have him give it a try.
As soon as my user got online, I give him instructions and we were off and rolling. First attempt failed with this error:
"Exchange account verification failed"
The next few failed as well with the same error. So I sent Mitch a message and next thing I know, we are chatting on BleedYellow IM. I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong when the user IM'd to say it was working. Seems he cleared out the values and started again. Boom!! He's got mail. Sending and receiving real-time. Off to the next users. Yep, just as easy. Now waiting on the CEO to come in and set his up as well. Life is good.
Nice work IBM. Easy to setup on both the Administrator and the user part.
One side note on the error. We believe it was because on the first attempts, the user put http:// in front of the server name. Not sure but left it off on the next and it worked perfectly.
Now I want an iPhone. What?!?! The Blackberry guy just said that? Yeah, but that's another post for another day.
